A kaleidoscope – depicted from the greek words kalos (=beautiful), eidos (=form) and skopion (= to see), i.e. "to see beautiful shapes", is a tube with a section of 2 or 3 mirrors and another section containing beeds, pebbles or other colorful objects. When looking into the tube , the light entering from the other side is reflected from the mirrors and the arbitrary and coincidental lay-out of the objects is converted in perfectly symetrical and beautiful patterns- every rotation of the tube , creates a new unique vision. Building a kaleidoscope is a skillfull task as the outcome depends on the selection and mix of objects and the numbers and angles of the mirrors.
Transferring the image of the kaleidoscope top the corporate world, it represents very well the ever changing environment , but also the beauty and opportunities behind the seeming chaos, when a positive attitude is applied and the company is steered with clear-cut visions and related strategies. People by being innovative and imaginative, working together and taking calculated risks contribute to the overall success of their organization. There is a clear message that the whole is larger than the sum of its parts just like the aesthetic experience of the kaleidoscope. |
